This is for the Charlie Valor comic, one of the main characters.

Finished at Long Last

Finished up on all the illustrations for this 12 Apostles book. It is a joyful relief to be done. This was a fun, sometimes daunting, and challenging project.

As someone who loves drawing comics, I honestly rarely read them. Aside from a small handful of artists whose work I follow, I just don't read comics much. Doug TenNapel is one of those artists.

Doug, who created "Earthworm Jim" back in the 1990s is a rare breed. Both an amazing artist and writer. Up unti now, his books "CreatureTech", and "Earthboy jacobus" were 2 of my all time favorite pieces of comic literature. Add Ghostopolis up there now.

Amazing story that moved me on multiple levels.

The comic book I illustrated and helped create characters for Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company is now online and we are quite proud of the fruits of our labors.

Enter "The Complicated World of Charlie Valor."

The book is aimed at youth and youth workers and deals with real life issues in a fun way (you don't get much more fun than super heroes and giant robots). This first issue deals with texting.

Once the script was written for the first issue, I literally had 5 or 6 days in which to pencil and ink the pages, scan and letter, and do all the art for the cover. It was intense, but probably one of the coolest things I've ever had a chance to work on.

The additional marketing for this was awesome, they let me design the logo, t-shirts, giant stand-ups, banners, etc. So fun!

I'm hoping they'll let me do more: )

This is the last of the illustrations for the 12 Apostles book.
It's 2:00AM, now I go do the dishes and go to bed for 4.5 hours.

Then drink caffeine.

On to John the Baptist

By the grace of God I finally finished the last Supper illustration. Above you'll see the first of 3 additional illustrations for the inside of the book. This being John the Baptist.

As you can see, I've finished the pencil drawing, and I've just begun the digital painting process. Something that I'm really beginning to enjoy.

No, I'm serious, I really am almost done this time...

Pretty much done with this one I hope. Put way more time in it that I anticipated. I'm liking the final results though.

I illustrated and designed a comic book in the past week. More to come. I need to sleep now.

AghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! part 2

Alright, minus some fine tuning, I have all the figures drawn and colored. Now to the background. Been staring at "writing photoshop file" message boxes alot this weekend. The average file size I've been working with has been over 650Mb, so every time I save, I get a chance to get up, go potty, do the dishes, let the dog out, etc, etc.

I'm on home stretch with this project though. I had no idea this would take this much time. God bless my wife for putting up with me this weekend.

AghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seriously worked at least 10 hours on this thing today. Ready to be done with it. An artists natural propensity towards disorganization is not beneficial to managing huge Photoshop files with 50+ layers.
